How does the ISFJ with ADHD live?

The typical ISFJ is extremely organized and structured. They love conforming to the already established ideals of society and ensuring that others conform to them as well. They show a deep sense of commitment to causes they’re passionate about and are very loyal to people in their circle. 

ISFJs are people you can easily rely on. If you have a task that needs to be carried out urgently, call on an ISFJ. When they’re given a duty, they go out of their way to do it and ensure that other people are taken care of. 

They are unusually optimistic and hardly give up on what they start. They enjoy doing things by the book, and they focus on what they have to do until it’s done. 

This is why the life of the ISFJ with ADHD can be quite frustrating. They want to be focused and show up as reliable, but they can’t seem to put themselves together. 

ISFJ with ADHD: What are the signs?

If you’re an ISFJ with ADHD or close to one, here are the likely signs you might have experienced

  • ISFJs with ADHD never complete their work on time. This may be an assignment, homework, or an errand. They find it hard to meet deadlines no matter how hard they try. 
  • They find it hard to focus. It takes them hours to complete a task that would ordinarily be completed in minutes.
  • They’re overly critical of themselves because they feel they should be more organized and structured than they are now 
  • ISFJs are naturally very patient people, but those with ADHD find it hard to be patient. For instance, they find it hard to wait in line for their turn or wait for their friend somewhere. 
  • They find it hard to focus on conversations. In most cases, they might start up good conversations but lost get along the way
  • They forget to do errands and assignments, carry out instructions, or remember simple things like birthdays 
  • They often struggle with depression and anxiety because they feel so far behind others or unconventional. 

ISFJ with ADHD: How can they cope?

Here are five basic tips that can help.

Use your creative abilities

The ISFJ with ADHD is typically very creative (most people with ADHD are quite creative, really). They observe things a lot and tend to have much more ideas running through their minds than normal. 

Instead of wallowing in self-pity, use your creative abilities to good use. Express yourself as creatively as you can. It shouldn’t be limited to singing or playing sports. It could be something as simple as critical thinking and analysis. If you have the gift of seeing things differently or spotting loopholes that can be fixed, utilize it.  

Have an accountability partner

Having an accountability partner will change your life. When you set goals, it may be hard for you to actually focus on those goals because you can’t fix your mind on one thing. 

An accountability partner will not only help you to achieve your goals but also reduce the pressure that you may feel to perform like everyone else. 

Remember that your accountability partner shouldn’t necessarily be your buddy. It should not only be someone that you respect and who has the capacity to point you in the right direction, but someone who understands your dilemma and is as patient with you as possible. 

Let people know.

Tell people, especially those in your circle, that you have ADHD. You’re not using this as an excuse to be complacent or to gather pity; it helps people understand and relate to you better. 

See a doctor
